So here is a question, why is that considered a ute? That looks like a full frame. I always assumed it was just El camino size and style, basically a car with a bed. Does this mean a Ranger/Colorado/Taco would be a ute?

single cab/double cab/space cab, so long as it has a tub or tray on the back generally referred to as a ute

our Colorados (Thai built/Brazil designed) do have a full frame.

El Camino you’re thinking of was the Commodore ute, which died last year with Holden ceasing manufacturing here in Australia

Ranger/Colorado/Taco a ute? yes

Makes sense and always wished Pontiac had enough time get a G8 ute up here. You can technically get one legally up in the states as they are just fitted with US certified (even though its basically the same parts) G8 parts.

And speaking of tubs, would a Ridgeline be considered as a ute then? (not sure if they are even sold there) or is that getting to big?

Ridgeline (whilst never sold here) would still be a ute, like the new Mercedes X-class

KISS principle applies always. You should try it sometimes.

If it has a tray...it is a Ute. Even a Ram 3500 is a Ute. Down here anyway...

Otherwise, if it’s a cab over, it’s a truck.

Utes. Trucks. Wagons. Shitheaps. That’s our four vehicular segments.

That’s interesting. I too was under the impression that “ute” was a term that was only used for car-based pickup trucks.

But it makes total sense. If ute is short for utility, then what better defining feature could there be than a bed/tub/tray? That should be established first, before discussing ground clearance or chassis type.
